The US Army’s Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-sUAS) Office (JCO) has chosen CACI International’s CORIAN system to safeguard Department of Defense (DoD) personnel and facilities against threats posed by unmanned aircraft systems or drones.

The Army JCO has been entrusted by the DoD to serve as the executive agent for C-sUAS to identify and prioritise shared gaps in technology and plans.

It is also designated to work with the industry to identify appropriate emerging technologies to address challenges, boost efficiencies, and promote competition in development of future technologies and procurement activities.

The DoD selected CORIAN out of more than 40 systems.

CORIAN was chosen as one of three fixed/semi-fixed systems approved for use by the department based on criteria including current use and future research, and system effectiveness, usability, sustainment, and integration.

According to CACI, the CORIAN C-sUAS solution was found to offer ‘the best performance and capability mix during the assessment.’

A modular, scalable mission technology system, CORIAN detects, identifies, tracks, and reduces UAS threats.

It makes use of precision-neutralisation techniques and leaves little to no collateral damage to the surrounding radio frequency (RF) spectrum and existing communications.

To keep up with the evolving threats, CORIAN also brings together the industry’s leading group 1-3 drone detection and mitigation ranges and the DoD’s C-sUAS signal library.

CACI president and CEO John Mengucci said: “CACI looks forward to expanding our base of installed systems worldwide and continuing our support to the Defense Department with CORIAN for immediate use, future research and testing to counter UAS threats.

“As a market leader in counter-UAS, we are significantly expanding CACI’s critical mission UAS technologies to best meet the ever-evolving operational needs of the DoD.”

CACI executive chairman and chairman of the board Dr JP (Jack) London said: “As a national security company, CACI continues to bring innovation and expertise to advance the military’s critical C-sUAS capabilities and to equip and protect our warfighters around the world.”
