The US Army has placed a new order worth $484m with Oshkosh Defense for the delivery of 1,574 units of the company’s joint light tactical vehicles (JLTV).

Under the agreement, the company will also be committed to providing the army with associated installed and packaged kits for the carriers.

Oshkosh Defense Joint Programs vice-president and general manager George Mansfield said: “This latest order follows the completion of the Multiservice Operational Test and Evaluation (MOT&E) conducted by the US Army and Marine Corps and further demonstrates that the JLTV programme continues to be a top modernisation priority for our armed services.

“The JLTV is ready to support our troops, and we look forward to getting more soldiers and marines into this extremely mobile, protected and proven next-generation light tactical vehicle.”

In April this year, the US Army and the US Marine Corps (USMC) completed operational testing of the new Oshkosh JLTVs.

In addition, the vehicle completed reliability qualification testing, accumulated more than 100,000 miles and surpassed reliability requirements.

To date, the company has manufactured more than 2,000 JLTVs and delivered more than 1,600 of them to the US Army and the USMC.

Oshkosh Defense is expecting a full-rate production (FRP) decision for the vehicles in fiscal year 2019 (FY19).

Last week, the company secured a $49m contract from the US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center (TARDEC) for the integration of existing palletised load system (PLS) vehicles with scalable autonomous technology as part of the service’s Expedient Leader Follower (ExLF) programme.
