Ukrainian defence company Ukroboronprom’s subsidiary Malyshev Plant has launched a new production line to manufacture experimental hulls for the BTR-4E armoured personnel carrier (APC).

Malyshev Plant, the state-owned enterprise, is currently completing preparation of the necessary equipment and organising works for the development of the first experimental hull for the carrier.

The BTR-4E APC has been designed indigenously by Ukroboronprom subsidiary Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau.

Malyshev Plant commercial director Dmytro Kolesnikov said: “We have entered into an agreement with the SE Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau and we are taking steps to get production facilities ready.

"The light armoured BTR-4E vehicle is designed to offer enhanced speed and improved protection for the crew members."

“We received basic materials, delivered the corresponding equipment from the Mykolayiv enterprise to our plant. At the moment, plant specialists have already begun preparatory works on the manufacture of the first experimental hull for BTR-4E.

“After successful product manufacture and testing, the SE Malyshev Plant will receive a permission (qualification) for manufacture. As a result of passing of all these stages, we will be able to begin mass production of hulls.”

The light armoured BTR-4E vehicle is designed to offer enhanced speed and improved protection for the crew members.

Furthermore, Malyshev Plant is also carrying out preparatory works for the production of hulls for the BTR-3E APC. To this end, the enterprise has already procured stands and a roll-over machine.

Serial production of hulls will provide Malyshev Plant with a significant additional workload under orders received from Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau and state enterprise Kyiv Armored Plant.
