The live phase of Nato-led multi-lateral joint forces exercise Trident Juncture 2018 has successfully concluded in Norway.

A UK-led multinational brigade carried out the final week-long part of the exercise in the freezing conditions of Norway.

The multinational brigade comprised the Royal Irish Regiment and Royal Lancashire Regiment, Danish tank units and armoured vehicles from Poland.

Participating Trident Juncture 2018 troops had the opportunity to train to operate under conditions that include attacks by highly capable and well-equipped enemies.

“The exercise has been designed to ensure that Nato forces are trained, able to operate in cooperation, and are prepared to respond to any threat from any direction.”

On the final day of the live exercise, the brigade successfully completed a river crossing, demonstrating the ability of the Nato allies to live, work and operate together in coordination.

The group carried out defensive operations in a harsh and challenging environment in order to address an advance made by an acting opposition force and regain control of lost land.

Trident Juncture 2018 is the largest Nato exercise since the Cold War. The exercise has been designed to ensure that Nato forces are trained, able to operate in cooperation, and are prepared to respond to any threat from any direction.

Having started on 25 October, the exercise involved more than 14,000 US service members from the army, airforce, navy and the marine corps.

Approximately 50,000 personnel from 31 Nato allies and partner nations participated in the event, which involved a range of assets featuring 250 aircraft, 65 vessels and nearly 10,000 vehicles.
