Thales Australia and Microsoft have partnered with Australian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to launch a tactical Cloud computing capability.

Called Nexium Defence Cloud Edge (NDC Edge), the secure mission-ready solution has been developed in Australia for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The Microsoft Azure Stack technology-built solution NDC Edge is designed to offer ‘timely access’ to key data and applications critical for the ADF.

The sovereign capability provides advantage right from the headquarters to the tactical edge. It includes all the components of military command posts.

Thales Australia chief executive Chris Jenkins said: “The targeted capabilities are more agile in their deployment, more interoperable in their use and deliver a more decisive impact on the battlefield.”

In addition, it is compatible with ‘Five Eyes’ nations, Nato Federated Mission network, humanitarian aid and civilian applications.

The integrated and modular capability allows deployed forces to ‘securely share critical information’ across multinational coalitions and other agencies to enable a ‘shared common operating picture’.

It also meets performance needs in terms of size, weight and power (SWaP) to ‘simplify deployment’ and reduce the logistical footprint.

The SMEs are Myriad Technologies, archTIS and Fortifyedge.

According to Thales, the three SMEs are integrating their new technologies to enable the capability to run at the ‘tactical edge’ for the ADF and coalition forces.
