The Norwegian Armed Forces has received the delivery of the first production HMT Extenda vehicle from UK Special Forces vehicle designer and manufacturer Supacat (SC).

The delivery has been carried out under a £23m contract signed in May 2015 between SC and the Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) for the delivery of the new fleet of high mobility vehicles.

The contract includes the provision for the delivery of through-life support to the vehicles produced at the company’s facility in Devon, England.

“HMT Extenda can be integrated with optional mine blast and ballistic protection kits, a range of mission hampers, weapons, communications, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR).”

Last year, SC carried out the delivery of the first ‘pre-series’ vehicle to the Norwegian Armed Forces, followed by the supply of the entire fleet during this year and the next.

SC Group chief executive Nick Ames said: “This project milestone is a great achievement for SC and for our Norwegian customer.

“I am proud of what the team has achieved in delivering a fantastic product and we are looking forward to following this first production delivery with the rest of the order.

“Yet again, the SC HMT has proven itself to be the vehicle of choice for specialist users across the globe.”

In order to carry out a wide range of operational roles, HMT Extenda can be integrated with optional mine blast and ballistic protection kits, a range of mission hampers, weapons, communications, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR), and force protection equipment.

The high mobility vehicle can be converted to 4×4 or 6×6 configuration by inserting or removing a self-contained third axle unit to help meet a range of operational requirements.
