Saab has signed a multi-year framework agreement with the US Government for AT4 disposable weapon system and Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifle ammunition.

Under the agreement, the US Army, US Marines and US Special Forces can place orders for up to Skr4.2bn ($445m) for a period of five years. The services can order AT4 and Carl-Gustaf ammunition.

The company has received the first purchase order worth around Skr771m ($83m) under this framework agreement.

Saab business area Dynamics head Görgen Johansson said: “This framework agreement further strengthens our relationship with the US Armed Forces, who have been users of our ground combat systems for decades.

“We see these continued investments as a clear proof that the customer values the flexibility and effectiveness of our systems.”

The US Armed Forces has received more than 600,000 AT4s since 1987. The weapon system is combat-proven, flexible and man-portable.

Designated MAAWS in the US, the Carl-Gustaf system has been a programme of record in the country since 2013.

The US Army is set to procure the latest version of the system, the Carl-Gustaf M4 man-portable multi-role weapon system.

In February, Saab signed a three-year framework agreement with the army for delivery of the Carl-Gustaf M4.

The system is known as M3E1 in the US. It features several enhancements, including a reduction of launcher weight from 10kg to less than 7kg.

Last month, the company entered a framework agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the Carl-Gustaf M4.
