The Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) has placed an order with Saab for the production of multispectral static camouflage systems.

The value of the order has not been disclosed.

Under the contract, the company will deliver a customer-specific woodland version of the Ultra-Lightweight Camouflage Screen (ULCAS) for the Canadian Army.

Saab Canada head Simon Carroll said: “This order will provide the Canadian Army with the most advanced camouflage system in the world, which brings true multispectral protection against detection by hostile threats to the end user.”

The company will complete deliveries under the order during this year.

According to Saab, the latest order is the finalisation of a long-term contract awarded to Saab in September 2013.

“Saab’s range of camouflage nets is available in various solutions and configurations and is used to conceal camps, vehicles and personnel.”

The DND awarded the contract for the supply of multispectral nets. It included the right to exercise further options for potential additional orders that could be placed over five years.

The multispectral static camouflage systems are designed to offer protection in a static position and can be adjusted to suit any type of terrain or environment. They are lightweight and easy to handle and decrease the enemy’s ability to detect and engage.

The company has exported its advanced camouflage technology products to over 50 countries so far.

Last year, the US Army placed an approximately Skr586m ($66m) order with Saab for the delivery of both woodland and desert camouflage systems. The systems will be produced at the company’s Saab Barracuda business unit.
