Russia state technology corporation Rostec’s Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building (TSNIITOCHMASH) has completed the acceptance trials of a new 120mm air-droppable self-propelled artillery gun.
TSNIITOCHMASH developed the artillery gun, named Lotos, for the country’s airborne force.
It was created and mounted on the BMD-4M airborne infantry fighting vehicle’s chassis.
During trials, the artillery piece confirmed its compliance with the specified tactical operational characteristics.
It will now be prepared to undergo preliminary trials.

By GlobalDataRostec State Corporation industrial director Bekkhan Ozdoev said: “The airborne amphibious gun Lotos showed itself perfectly during the completed acceptance tests.
“The combat vehicle fully meets the requirements for weight and size characteristics and at the same time has an impressive speed, rate of fire and range of fire.
“We expect that the next stage, preliminary tests, will begin this year.”
The tests are said to have helped analyse the operability of the assemblies, mechanisms and devices of the gun.
The system is reported to have covered 400km and conducted 14 shots.
Documentation to confirm the compliance of the gun prototype with the working design documentation was signed by Russian Defense Ministry representatives at TSNIITOCHMASH.
The Lotos artillery system has a weight of 18t and features a 450hp engine. It has a 500km operating range.
