Russian state tech corporation Rostec has demonstrated coordination capabilities between Msta-S self-propelled howitzer and Orlan-10E reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The joint operation was shown to representatives of an undisclosed foreign customer at the Staratel training ground in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil.

During the joint work, Orlan-10E located the target and transferred its coordinates to the control system to calculate the installation for firing.

Msta-S crew received the calculations from the control machine and conducted the firing.

The artillery system, upgraded for Nato-standard 155mm calibre, fired at a maximum distance of 40km.

In a release, Rostec said: “The combat capabilities of the modernised 155mm self-propelled howitzer 2S19M1-155 were demonstrated to a foreign customer. It fired at a maximum distance of 40km with laying recovery in automatic mode.

The Msta-S self-propelled howitzer is manufactured by Uraltransmash, a subsidiary of UralVagonZavod under Rostec State Corporation.

It is a modern tracked howitzer designed for destroying artillery and mortar batteries, tank columns, command and control units and reconnaissance posts.

Orlan-10 is a medium-range, multi-purpose UAV developed by Russian firm Special Technology Center in St Petersburg.

In February, Rostec unveiled plans to equip the Sotnik third-generation soldier combat outfit with autonomous electric heat systems.
