The Central Scientific-Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITochMash), a part of Rostec, has created new ammunition to protect armoured vehicles from high-precision weapons and increase their safety on the battlefield.

The new ammunition weighs 2.8kg and has a calibre of 76mm.

In the event of a threat, the protective ammunition is fired in a dangerous direction to create aerosol and dipole chaff, which make the high-precision weapon guidance system of an enemy blind.

Rostec weapons cluster representatives said: “The ammunition can be used as part of defensive weapons with existing and future armoured vehicles in any climate.

“For the first time the product will be shown to the military at the forum Army-2021, and state tests are to finish this year.

“The use of the new ammunition together with modern radio-electronic weapons will increase safety of armoured vehicles on the battlefield. We are convinced that the new product will be sought after on export markets.”

Russian news agency TASS quoted Rotec as saying that the munition will be in demand on export markets.

TsNIITochMash has developed several generations of protection systems from high-precision weapons.

In particular, they have been created for PRP-4A Argus artillery reconnaissance vehicle, Uragan-1M multiple rocket launcher system, and other military vehicles.

The density of combined curtain is the main feature of the latest ammunition protecting from weapons with laser, optical, heat and radio guidance system, which is 1.5 times higher compared to analogues.

Last month, Rostec’s Rosoboronexport delivered 4.5mm SPP-1M underwater pistols and 5.66mm APS underwater assault rifles to a foreign partner.
