German Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a €54m order package to supply spare parts and special tools for the army’s Puma infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).

Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and Inservice Support (BAAINBw) has contracted with the country’s defence industry to supply the equipment.
Rheinmetall is a member of the consortium responsible for developing and producing the Puma and its share of the order is valued at about €54m.
As part of a framework agreement signed recently, the shipment of the spare parts worth around €44m is expected to start in the middle of this year. Shipments will be made in response to call-offs.
Deliveries are expected to take place in about two years.

Heeresinstandsetzungslogistik (HIL) and relevant Bundeswehr Technical Centres will take deliveries of the shipments. Additional materiel requirements can be expected in future.
During this year, the 350 Puma IFVs will be delivered to the Germany Army.
These vehicles will now enter service and the current order for spare parts will assure optimum logistical support and operational readiness.
The Puma IFV features modular force protection elements and unique combat effectiveness and is tailormade for network-enabled operations.
Last year, a working group for the ‘System Panzergrenadier VJTF 2023’ project secured contracts, of which orders worth more than €470m were secured by Rheinmetall.
In July last year, Rheinmetall announced the delivery of a project to modernise the Puma IFV for the Nato spearhead Very High Joint Readiness Task Force 2023 (VJTF 2023).
