Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has announced that the US Army evaluated its SPIKE Short Range (SR) missile.

Earlier this month, the company demonstrated the missile at the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) 2021.

The demonstration was carried out by the company and its US subsidiary Rafael Systems Global Sustainment (RSGS).

Rafael noted that AEWE 2021 is assessing advanced technologies as part of US Army’s modernisation efforts, as well as the service’s six modernisation priorities.

As part of the demonstration in AEWE 2021, US Army infantry squads evaluated SPIKE SR as a ‘precision munition system’.

During the live-fire demonstration, SPIKE SR missiles engaged static and moving ‘targets in day (EO) and IR modes’ under obscure visibility conditions in the battlefield.

Rafael Systems Global Sustainment president and CEO Joe Anderson said: “We were greatly honoured to present the advanced SPIKE SR missile system for assessment by the AEWE team. This lightweight system can greatly enhance squad-level soldier lethality, a core capability of the army.

“AEWE was an important opportunity to demonstrate SPIKE and multiple other Rafael systems. This included Fire Weaver, our sensor-to-shooter system, and BNET, our broadband IP SDR (Software Defined Radio).

“These systems, combined with SPIKE SR, can provide tactical overmatch by enabling high manoeuvrability and lethality. The live-fire further demonstrated the effectiveness of SPIKE and provided a good opportunity for first-hand soldier feedback.”

In October 2017, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems secured a deal for the production and supply of Spike LR 2 missiles for the Israel Defense Forces.
