Patria has achieved a new milestone in the Finnish-Latvian joint 6×6 vehicle programme by delivering the first Patria 6×6 armoured wheeled vehicles to Latvia.

The handover also marks that the programme is proceeding on schedule, Patria said in a statement.

The move comes after personnel from the Latvian National Armed Forces completed user training of the armoured vehicle at Patria’s facilities in Hämeenlinna, Finland.

During the two-week-long course, the Latvian soldiers learnt how to operate the Patria 6×6 vehicle. They also received necessary maintenance and user training.

Commenting on the delivery, Patria Land business unit president Jussi Järvinen said: “With high-quality cooperation between Latvian companies, our own professionals, and the future users of the vehicles, we have achieved this important milestone together.

“Staying on schedule and taking a project this size forward so effectively is not always a matter of course, and we do not take this milestone for granted. Hard work has been done on this and will continue to be done.”

Notably, Finland and Latvia agreed on a joint development programme last year to improve the mobility of the ground forces.

Subsequently, in August this year, Patria signed a frame agreement for production phase management with Finland and Latvia.

The Patria 6×6 armoured wheeled vehicle is designed to offer ground forces with tactical troop transportation capability and advanced protection. The armoured system can be used for any combat support role.

Under a supply contract, Latvia will receive more than 200 pieces of 6×6 armoured personnel carriers, as well as associated support and training systems.

Separately, Patria announced that it is participating in a research project led by the Finnish and German defence administrations.

The project will assess teaming of crewed and uncrewed systems in various situations.
