The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has awarded a $75m contract to Oshkosh Defense.

Under the contract, the company will supply 354 family medium tactical vehicles (FMTV) A1P2 trucks and trailers.

Oshkosh Defense US Army and US Marine Corps programmes vice-president and general manager Pat Williams said: “Whether it’s moving troops and supplies, recovering vehicles and weapon systems, or hauling equipment, the highly capable FMTV has proven itself time and time again to be a reliable asset for the US Army.

“Together with the US Army, we have established a robust FMTV programme. We look forward to successfully completing the remaining FMTV A1P2 deliveries and seamlessly transitioning to FMTV A2 production without interruption.”

In 2009, the company was first awarded the FMTV A1P2 contract for the supply of the vehicles to the army.

So far, Oshkosh Defense has delivered more than 38,100 trucks and trailers to the service.

The US Army TACOM LCMC announced an administrative modification to the FMTV A1P2 requirements contract in September 2017. As part of this modification, future orders under the FMTV A1P2 contract can be placed until 25 August 2019.

Oshkosh Defense’s FMTV is designed to deliver unprecedented durability and reliability while meeting the mission demands of the US Army.

The company was selected by the US Army in February last year to produce the next-generation FMTV A2.

Designed to deliver enhanced troop protection and capable of carrying additional payload, the low-rate production for the FMTV A2 programme is likely to be awarded to Oshkosh Defense in the fiscal year 2021.
