Northrop Grumman has secured a US Army contract to perform risk reduction for radar technology intended to replace the current Patriot radars.

The contract for lower tier air and missile defence sensor (LTAMDS) and associated mission capabilities was awarded by Lower Tier Program Office (LTPO).

The LTAMDS will be integrated into the army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense enterprise controlled by the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS).

Northrop stated that the IBCS advanced command and control system combines air and missile defence sensors and weapons to generate a real-time comprehensive picture of the threat. Patriot radars are included as part of this.

Northrop Grumman global ground-based radars vice-president Roshan Roeder said: “We are excited about this award and the overall mission capabilities we can provide the army.

“Rapidly deployable ground-based radars are developed by Northrop for the US Marine Corps.”

“We have more than 40 years of experience in providing proven surveillance and threat engagement capabilities to more than 35 global customers.”

Rapidly deployable ground-based radars are developed by Northrop for the US Marine Corps. This includes technology such as the high performance AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR active electronically scanned array production radar.

The G/ATOR has been designed to provide comprehensive, real-time, 360° multi-threat detection and tracking capabilities.

In a separate development, Northrop successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the integrated air and missile defence (IAMD) battle command system (IBCS) intended for use by the army.

The IAMD IBCS has been designed to improve Link-16 joint air picture in a complex, operationally realistic environment.
