The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible $1.035bn foreign military sale (FMS) of joint light tactical vehicles (JLTV) and accessories to the UK.

Under the sale, the UK has requested up to 2,747 JLTVs, as well as kits for baseline integration, arctic engines, fording, power expansion and cargo cover, spare tyres and training.

The UK Government also aims to receive US Government technical and logistics support services.

The procurement is expected to improve the UK’s light tactical vehicle fleet and the country’s ability to meet current and future threats.

Oshkosh Defense will serve as the principal contractor for the sale.

The procured items will require minimal contractor support until the UK can eventually transition to internal organic support, DSCA stated.

Oshkosh’s JLTV has been designed to serve as a highly mobile and protected command centre.

The vehicle is fitted with a powerful drivetrain and advanced suspension system, as well as a fully integrated C4ISR system.

It also features a C4 mechanical, electrical and user interface to reduce integration time and optimise overall system performance, Oshkosh stated.

The company’s vehicles can be reconfigured to meet the demands of an evolving battlefield with a mission expansion package.
