The Spanish Defence Ministry has deployed anti-UAV defence system (AUDS) to detect and neutralise malicious unmanned aircraft systems or drones that pose threat to critical assets and personnel.

Blighter’s Spanish representative CIAC will deliver the AUDS detect-track-identify-defeat counter-drone system under a contract worth around €2m.

Blighter Surveillance Systems CEO Mark Radford said: “We are delighted to have secured yet another sale of our strategic counter-UAV system. This contract with the Spanish military follows the successful mission deployment of multiple AUDS systems by United States’ forces in 2016.

“AUDS is fully developed so we have been able to meet the Spanish Defence Ministry’s rapid delivery timescale. The systems were shipped in late May 2017 for immediate deployment following operator training.”

A consortium comprising Blighter Surveillance Systems, Chess Dynamics and Enterprise Control Systems developed the system in 2015.

Blighter said that AUDS can detect a drone using the electronic scanning micro-Doppler radar, track it using precision infrared and daylight cameras, and defeat it using a non-kinetic radio frequency (RF) inhibitor.

The system will allow the operator to effectively take control of a drone and force a safe landing.

Designed to operate in harsh environments, the military-grade AUDS system can be used day or night in all weather conditions.

To date, AUDS has conducted more than 1,500 sorties and tested against over 60 drone types, including fixed-wing and quadcopter variants.
