Saab has received an order to supply the new Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapon system to an undisclosed customer.

An upgraded version of Saab's Carl-Gustaf M3, the M4 is a shoulder-launched multirole weapon system, designed to allow military forces to engage multiple tactical targets.

Using the M4, soldiers will be able to tackle tactical situations ranging from neutralising armoured tanks or enemy troops to clearing obstacles.

The man-portable weapon is compatible with intelligent sighting systems and programmable ammunition.

It has a length of less than 1,000mm and weighs less than 7kg.

Saab Dynamics head Görgen Johansson said: “With the M4 version the customer will have a weapon with the latest technology and with improved ergonomics which will give them an increased tactical flexibility to deal with any situation on the battlefield.”

The weapon system features improved ergonomics and is equipped with an adjustable shoulder rest and front grip. It is also fitted with an integrated shot counter for enhanced logistics and maintenance, and is provided with dual mode safety features.

Deliveries under the latest order will take place in 2017.

With the order, Saab has secured its fourth customer for the new M4 system since its market debut in late 2014.

In 2015, the company received its first order of the new Carl-Gustaf M4 from the armed forces of the Slovak Republic.

The system was also acquired by two other countries for evaluation and qualification purposes.
