The US has sanctioned Australia’s purchase of EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, which could be the first foreign military sale of the Growler, defence sources have said.

The decision for the potential foreign sale of the high-end US military equipment was made by the US Technology, Transfer, Security Assistance, Review Board (TTSARB).

The TTSARB decision follows the request by the Australian Government for 12 F/A-18F Super Hornets, half a 24-plane order for the RAAF in 2009.

Australia procured 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets in a $6bn deal to replace the aging fleet of F-111 strike aircraft, according to the Australian.
