Iran is willing to provide help and take part in a military exchange with the Lebanese Army, Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said.

Hezbollah secretary general Hassan Nasrallah said he was prepared to mediate with Iran to secure arms for Lebanese forces if necessary.

A $100m US aid package for Lebanon’s military was put on hold due to the border clash between Lebanese and Israeli forces on 2 August 2010, according to Bloomberg.

Hezbollah has 40,000 short and medium-range rockets and a force of 20,000 combatants, of whom, a third have received combat training in Iran, according to reports by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper.
