The Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force has selected Enstrom Helicopter Corporation to supply the next generation of training helicopters for its pilot training programme.
The Enstorm 480B training helicopter provides exceptional crew comfort, and the extended range and endurance that makes the aircraft serve as a power line / utility patrol aircraft.

The helicopter’s rugged airframe, ground-up crashworthiness and auto-rotational capabilities allow the helicopter to provide smooth flight training for the operator.
In addition, the helicopter can undergo a wide range of missions, including personnel transport, electronic news gathering, pipeline patrol, aerial photography, and cargo and passenger delivery.
The first evaluation helicopter is scheduled to be delivered in 2010, with a total of 30 aircraft delivered by 2014.
