The Spanish Army has awarded a contract to information technology and defence systems company Indra to supply an additional three Advent 1.5m X-band NewSwift antenna systems.
The Advent 1.5m X-band NewSwift antenna, developed by Vislink Group company Advent Communications, is part of a highly compact integrated satellite terminal designed for rapid deployment.
The system features a specially shaped offset fed antenna that is manufactured in carbon fibre for strength and portability. The device is configured for X band with voice over internet protocol for baseband data and voice.
Spain’s emergency military unit, Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) has ordered three more NewSwift motorised antennas to add to the 17 1.5m NewSwift mobile satellite terminals previously ordered.
Each of the UME’s mobile terminals incorporates a monitoring and control system that can be managed remotely from UME Headquarters.
Currently the Spanish defence Satellite Communications System (SECOMSAT) being developed and installed by Indra incorporates two hub stations and more than 300 terminals, including fly away, tactical, marine installations and software for the management network.
