Telecom services company Tellabs Government Systems has been selected to provide a secure, highly reliable optical transport network between army bases in New Mexico and Texas.

The US Army's infrastructure modernisation (IMOD) programme will enhance the voice and data services of the army bases through the upgrade and expansion of telecommunications networks.

Tellabs 7100 optical transport system will be deployed between White Sands Missile Range located in New Mexico and the Fort Bliss Range Complex in Texas by the prime contractor, General Dynamics.

Once the network is installed, the adjoining army bases will form the largest military facility in the US.
