The US Army has awarded a $5.1m follow-on contract to GE Aviation Systems to supply aviation ground power unit (AGPU) generators for its helicopters.

The AGH828-2 generator is part of the integrated ground support equipment system for the army’s UH-60 Black Hawk, AH-64D Apache, and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

Each AGPU integrates hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and conditioned air, and is self-powered. The army plans to upgrade the 600-plus AGPUs in service with increased power capability and longer life.

The Defense Logistics Agency (DSCR-AHB) is the contracting agency. The contract is scheduled for completion in July 2013.
