FNSS, a joint venture between BAE Systems and Turkey's Nurol Holding, has signed a $559m letter of offer and acceptance to provide its AV-8 armoured vehicles for the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The letter was awarded for the design, development and manufacture of 257 AV-8 armoured vehicles.

The vehicle, to be manufactured and redesigned by DEFTECH in Malaysia, is based on the FNSS-designed PARS 8x8 multi-purpose, multi-mission, wheeled armoured vehicle.

FNSS will provide the technical assistance and technology transfer as well as the integrated logistic support to enable DEFTECH to manufacture the vehicles.

The AV-8 will be Malaysia's first indigenous family of 8x8 armoured wheeled vehicles consisting of 12 variants.

FNSS and DEFTECH have previously delivered 211 ADNAN armoured combat vehicles and eight 120mm armoured combat vehicle mortar carriers to the Malaysian Army.
