Iranian Army Ground Forces is to soon undergo changes in its structure, composition and organisation, commander Brigadier-General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan has said.

“In order to cope with the new conditions governing the world and the kind of military threats emerging, it was necessary to bring about changes in the structure, organisation and composition of Iran’s Ground Forces,” he added.

Plans for new military bases in eastern, south-eastern and southern parts of Iran are also being considered, which is likely to be completed within a five-year programme.

The new structural changes are part of the implementation of the reform plan approved by the Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
