Germany’s Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) has commissioned Cassidian to deliver an additional 400 basic-version future soldier system (IdZ BS) units.
The new delivery order is to meet the needs of German forces involved in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan.
An IdZ BS system consists of modular bullet-proof vest, C4I equipment, NaviPad for situational awareness and transmitting messages, target data and images, night vision device, tactical radio, laser range finder and thermal image sighting device.
The system has been in service with the German Army, Navy and Air Force since 2004 and has provided enhanced command and control, navigation and weaponry during foreign missions.
The new order will bring the total number of IdZ BS equipment sets for German troops to 2,900.
