The Iranian Parliament has asked the Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi to speed up legal action procedures against Russia for breaching an S-300 missile system contract.

Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Rapporteur Kazzem Jalali said the defence minister has assured lawmakers that the government would take legal action against Russia.

Russia had cancelled the delivery of the missile system to Iran after the President Dmitry Medvedev issued a decree in September 2010 in line with UN Security Council (UNSC) sanctions.

Iran dismissed Russia’s justification on the ban and stated that the air defence system was not included in Resolution 1929, according to Fars News Agency.

On 9 June 2010, the UNSC imposed a US-engineered sanctions resolution against Iran due to allegations over its nuclear programme.
