Saab has signed an agreement with Nexter Munitions to deliver the AT4 disposable shoulder-launched weapon system for the French Army’s Roquette Nouvelle Generation (NG) programme.
Manufactured by Saab Bofors Dynamics, AT4 is an 84mm unguided, man-portable anti-armour weapon used for the protection of vital assets, fixed defence installations and key supply points.
Saab Business Area Dynamics senior vice president and head Gorgen Johansson said: "By teaming up with Nexter Munition, we get access to a company in France, with the expertise needed to support us with the Roquette NG programme, throughout both tender and execution."
Nexter Munitions and Nexter Training chief executive officer and Nexter Systems managing director Jean-Patrick Baillet said: "We see the cooperation with Saab as a perfect match, where we together can create an extremely strong offer to the French Army."
Incorporating several design features of Saab Carl Gustaf weapon, the single-shot recoilless smoothbore weapon is primarily effective in assaulting tanks and combat vehicles, landing craft, helicopter, as well as aircraft and armoured vehicles.
Intended to replace the French Army’s existing Eryx system, the new rockets are required to have the capability to hit a moving target at 600m and a stationary target at 1,000m.
