UK-based military technology company Marlborough Communications has attained Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS) accreditation.

The status has been granted by the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and allows Marlborough Communications to design equipment for UK MoD aircraft.

Marlborough Communications is one of the few small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have attained DAOS status.

The company has been sponsored by the MoD to work towards approval, including undergoing appropriate training, as part of an ongoing contract.

Marlborough Communications managing director Shane Knight said: “Being awarded DAOS accreditation is a significant milestone for MCL.

“We have already begun key projects under DAOS, including designing systems for use by almost all airforce pilots to protect hearing.”

“It will enable us to grow our business within the aircraft communications systems sector by undertaking our own research and development work, complementing our market-leading position as a vendor of existing cutting-edge military technology.

Companies that work with the UK MoD in the design of aircraft systems, associated equipment, as well as airborne explosive ordnance and armament equipment must be evaluated by the MAA.

Organisations are required to have their competencies extensively tested and endorsed before becoming an approved DAOS entity.

DAOS status provides the framework and associated guidance that air safety is evaluated against and governs military aviation activity.

This calls for accredited companies to record and keep detailed information on all equipment supplied.
