The Latvian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has placed an order for the acquisition of ammunition for a Saab Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system.

Valued at Skr170m ($18.73m), the order has been placed with Saab under a framework agreement signed with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).

Under the agreement, the Latvian MoD has the ability to place orders for the delivery of grenade ammunition by Saab.

The ammunition will be provided to the Armed Forces of Latvia, which has been using the 84mm Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifle system for more than 20 years.

Saab Dynamics Business Area head Görgen Johansson said: “This order demonstrates the continued strong belief in our weapon systems and is a clear proof of the trust we have with the customer and the capability it creates for the Armed Forces of Latvia.”

Saab Carl-Gustaf is a shoulder-launched, multi-role weapon system that has the capability to employ a wide range of ammunition types.

The weapon is successively being upgraded by the company to support new ammunition types and increased capabilities.

In June, the company received a Skr135m ($16m) ammunition order from the US Department of Defense for the Carl-Gustaf rifle, also known as M3 multi-role, anti-armour, anti-personnel weapon system in the country.
