L3Harris Technologies has secured two contracts with a combined value of $233m from the Australian Defence Force.

Valued at $118m, the first contract requires the company to deliver advanced night vision goggle technology for the Australian Army. The technology will help in boosting situational awareness and improve soldiers’ ability to identify and engage threats.

This comes after L3Harris delivered the night-vision equipment for Tranche 1 of Australia’s Land 53 programme last year.

As agreed, L3Harris will supply the Australian forces with Fused Night Vision System (FNVS), which is equipped with the fusing image intensification technology with thermal imagery to enable targeting and identification in all battlefield conditions and light levels.

When used with L3Harris battery pack, the FNVS system delivers critical battlefield information directly to the soldier’s vision system.

Separately, L3Harris also won a three-year, $115m follow-on firm-fixed-price (FFP) contract under the Direct Commercial Sale (DCS) arrangements for the Australian Defence Force’s Delphic – Cryptographic Modernization programme.

Under this contract, L3Harris will deliver tactical radios, waveforms and ancillaries.

L3Harris Communication Systems president Dana Mehnert said: “These key modernisation programmes extend L3Harris’ long-term partnership with the Australian Defence Force, supporting mission needs for advanced secure communications and night vision capabilities, and will also leverage our expanded technical support capability in Australia.”

The two contracts also include full in-country support and repair support services.

Last month, L3Harris Technologies secured a contract to deliver electro-optical/infra-red (EO/IR) sighting systems to the Swiss Armed Forces.

The deliveries will support the Swiss Armed Forces’ TASYS tactical reconnaissance system.
