Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has secured a contract to deliver RL542A NATO Band IV Radio Link, a Flexible High Capacity Radio Link (FHCL), to the Norwegian Armed Forces.

The Nkr128m ($13.43m) contract was awarded by Norwegian Defence Material Agency.

As agreed, Kongsberg will supply a complete communications solution with the radio platform as the centrepiece of the system.

The system will also include antennas, cables, portable equipment and other accessories modified to meet the requirements of the Norwegian Armed Forces.

The RL542A NATO Band IV radio link, equipped with ECCM capabilities and high data rates, enables point-to-point and point-to-multi-point high-capacity secure connection.

Kongsberg defence and aerospace executive vice-president Pål Bratlie said: “Kongsberg is proud to be selected by the Norwegian Armed Forces for the FHCL program.

“Kongsberg is currently providing the NATO Band III radio link to Norway, as well as the complete communications network for the KONGSBERG/Raytheon NASAMS ground-based air defence system in Norway and numerous international customers.

“The Band IV radio link provides a highly capable and flexible supplementary communication capability.”

The deliveries are expected to commence next May.

Kongsberg expects that the Norwegian contract will further boost export opportunities for the product.

The company already delivered more than 3,800 radio links to 21 countries globally.

In May, Kongsberg secured a contract to deliver Protector Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) to the Canadian Army. The Protector RWS is designed to carry small and medium calibre weapons and operate on land and sea.
