Raytheon and Lockheed Martin‘s Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) has received a contract for the manufacture of F-model (FGM-148F) missiles.

The contract marks the start of an initial full-rate production agreement and will see the company produce 2,100 F-model missiles.

This award follows an extensive system qualification test programme and the missile delivered 21 successful flight tests.

Deliveries under the contract will be carried out in early 2020. International allies can approach the US Government to obtain approval for procurement of the F-Model rounds.

Equipped with an advanced multipurpose warhead (MPWH), Javelin FGM-148F missile has been developed to replace the FGM-148E (Block I) weapon.

The MPWH features a new shaped charged technology and a fragmenting steel warhead case to engage existing and emerging advanced armoured threats.

Currently, efforts are focused on enhancing the performance of the missile’s command launch unit (CLU) with development of the lightweight version and FGM-148G model missile.

The Javelin missile system is a man-portable anti-tank weapon that can be shoulder-fired and installed on tracked, wheeled or amphibious vehicles.

It is designed to provide operational support to the US Army soldiers and the US Marine Corps with superior mission success and tactical operational readiness.

So far, JJV has manufactured a total of more than 45,000 missiles and 12,000 CLUs.

The missile system has been deployed during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, with more than 5,000 engagements.

Alongside the US, other Javelin customers include France, the UK, Norway, Lithuania, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, New Zealand, Australia, and Taiwan.
