Intevac has secured an order to continue the production of night-vision cameras for installation on board Apache helicopters.

The five-year, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract was awarded by the US Army’s PM Apache Office in Huntsville, Alabama, to support the Modernized Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-PNVS) programme.

The order carries a maximum value of $16.3m. As agreed, the US Army will procure the additional units through August 2026 at pre-negotiated prices.

Intevac will now provide cameras for new Apache Airframe builds, foreign military sales (FMS) orders, and spares.

The company will deliver the Electronic Image Intensification camera, which is based on its Electron Bombarded Active Pixel Sensor technology for extreme low-light level detection.

Notably, Intevac became a primary supplier in 2013 and received another follow-on contract in 2015.

Intevac Photonics executive vice-president and general manager Timothy Justyn said: “Intevac finished deliveries outfitting the US Apache fleet, spares and initial FMS customer orders in September of 2020. We are excited to be delivering additional cameras to support our warfighters effort.

“Since becoming a Prime supplier in 2013, Intevac’s success in fielding cameras to the US Army played a significant role in winning this business.”

Earlier this year, the North Carolina Army National Guard’s (ANG) 1-130th Attack Battalion (AB) crew conducted a live-fire aerial gunnery training with AH-64D Longbow Apache helicopters.

The AH-64D was armed with Air Ground Missile (AGM)-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missile, and 2.75in rockets and a 30mm Area Weapons System.
