The move comes as Spain seeks to replace its Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) with a newer version.

According to the companies, the proposed JTRS will enable Spanish armed forces in maintaining technical autonomy over strategic military communications. It will also help in improving the troops’ interoperability during international missions.

The proposed communications system will be based on Thales’ SYNAPS radio product family. It will be equipped with new jointly developed features.

Additionally, both companies will provide services support to the Spanish Armed Forces throughout the lifecycle of the system.

A joint statement said: “The partnership will bring significant mutual benefits for both companies, strengthening Indra’s solutions portfolio, and consolidating Thales’ industrial footprint in the defence sector in Spain.”

The move comes a week after Indra announced to have delivered the second NH90 helicopter Full Mission Simulator (FMS) to the Spanish Army.
