The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India has identified 108 systems and subsystems for design and development to boost the indigenous defence ecosystem.
This is a part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative to make the country self-reliant.

A delegation from the DRDO met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to outline the systems for the design and development by the industry in India.
This is expected to aid the country’s defence industry to create different technologies, which will lead to a self-reliant India.
DRDO will support the industries for the design, development and testing of the systems based on the requirement.
The needs of the research and development establishments, armed forces, and other security agencies for the systems can be addressed through the development contracts or production orders.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said: “DRDO has been partnering with industry for realisation of its systems. Collaborating with DRDO in the development of major weapon systems the Indian industry has matured to a stage where they can develop systems on their own.
“Indian industry has progressed from a ‘build to print’ partner to ‘build to specification’ partner.”
Last month, the Indian Army planned to deploy drones to monitor borders along the line of actual control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Named Bharat, the high-altitude drone was developed by DRDO’s Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh.
In July last year, DRDO performed a series of test firings of the Nag anti-tank guided missiles.
