The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has conducted the test-firing of guided Pinaka rocket weapon system.

The rocket system was tested three times since Monday, twice on 11 March and once the following day at Pokhran desert, Rajasthan.

Pinaka is a multi-barrel rocket system developed by the DRDO for the Indian Army to provide the existing artillery gun at ranges beyond 30km. The guided Pinaka is a transformed version of Pinaka Rocket Mark-II.

It is equipped with a modernised guidance kit that includes an advanced navigation and control system.

The conversion enhanced the range and accuracy of the Pinaka weapon system The rocket system is expected to engage targets from a range of 20km to 80km.

In all the three trials, the weapon system impacted the intended targets with high precision and accuracy.

Performance of the flight was tracked and monitored by telemetry systems.

The Indian Ministry of Defence said in a statement: “All the three trials met mission objectives.”

Consistent success of the trials displays the efficiency, reliability and accuracy of the weapon system.

Furthermore, the guided Pinaka is expected to considerably boost artillery capabilities to achieve high precision.
