The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India has joined the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic as the number of cases in the country crosses 5,000.

The ordnance manufacturer has stepped up efforts to produce medical equipment in collaboration with other industry partners across India.

According to The Times of India report, DRDO’s Vehicle Research Development Establishment (VRDE) has developed a personnel sanitisation enclosure (PSO).

It is an electrically operated pump that can be used for quick disinfection.

Additionally, the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad and the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh has developed a lightweight full face mask.

Currently, TBRL produces around one thousand face shields every day.
