US-based Silvus Technologies has been selected by Harris for the delivery of its StreamCaster SC4200 radios to support the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Project Starter.

Being run within Special Projects Search & Countermeasures (SPSCM), the Project Starter is a Category C programme that has been designed to procure a new explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) remote controlled vehicle (RCV) for use on contingent operations.

Under a $70m MoD contract, Harris is providing the T7 robotic platform designed to support EOD.

Following extensive testing and assessment, Harris selected the Silvus radios for the project.

“The rugged construction and enhanced robustness of the StreamCaster radios enables T7 robot operators to fight against explosive threats more effectively from a safe stand-off distance.”

Silvus Technologies’ StreamCaster SC4200 radio would help provide wireless command, control and video operations of the T7 robot.

Silvus Technologies Unmanned Systems director of sales Kasey Cooper said: “Silvus is thrilled for the opportunity to support Harris Corporation in bringing mission-critical technology like this to the UK forces.

“The pairing of Silvus Mobile Networked MIMO (MN-MIMO) Technology with the T7 robot will provide an unprecedented capability to overcome the growing threat IEDs pose to our friendly forces.”

The two companies intend to commence work on the programme this year.

Harris’s T7 robot has been developed to support the rising requirements of both commercial and military missions, such as hazardous materials clean-up, EOD, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) missions.
