German procurement agency BAAINBw has contracted General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) to deliver EAGLE 6×6 vehicles.

Under the contract, the company will supply a total of 80 highly protected vehicles. The contract value has not been disclosed.

The 6×6 version was selected following a competitive tender process. It is intended for the German Army’s ambulance corps.

The competition was held as part of the medium protected ambulance vehicle programme (mittleres geschütztes Ambulanzfahrzeug).

With the contract, the EAGLE 6×6 will fulfill the gap between the German Army ambulance corps’ light and heavy ambulance vehicle fleet. Germany is the second customer for this EAGLE configuration.

GDELS International Business and Services vice-president Dr Thomas Kauffmann said: “We would like to thank the German Army very much for its confidence in our EAGLE vehicle platform. As a reliable partner to the Bundeswehr, GDELS is fully committed to deliver the vehicles on cost, quality, and schedule.”

Work under the contract will be carried out at the company’s facilities in Switzerland and Germany.

Under the German contract, most of the manufacturing activities will be performed in Kaiserslautern and Sembach.

The production work will also see the participation of several German suppliers.

GDELS expects to begin deliveries of the first vehicles from next year and run up to 2024.

GDELS-Deutschland managing director Dr Christian Kauth said: “This contract will further strengthen our capabilities as a leading vehicle OEM and will result in a multi-million investment into our German vehicle maintenance hub in Sembach.”

The Swiss Army is the first customer of the 6×6 configuration.

Featuring a large user compartment and increased payload, the EAGLE 6×6 offers reduced ownership cost and is easy to maintain.

Nearly 700 EAGLE vehicles are operational with the German Army and German Federal Police.
