Arquus has delivered the 500th VT4 vehicle to the French Army, which was produced as part of the French Ministry of Defense’s Scorpion project.

This handover marks the end of the first tier of 500 Standard 1 VT4 vehicles that have been delivered to the army since 1 October.

The light and non-armoured VT4 is a 4×4 vehicle designed for command and liaison purposes. It can be used to transport five soldiers or four operators equipped with the FELIN fighting system.

The Scorpion project aims to transform the equipment and networking of the key operating unit of the French Army.

It will also involve the replacement or modernisation of all of the French Army’s frontline combat vehicles and existing combat equipment.

“The VT4 has already received positive feedback from the French units for its ‘comfort, security and modernity’.”

As part of the project, Arquus is one of the three members of the short-term consortium that received the Scorpion contract.

Production work on the vehicles started at the Arquus plant in Saint Nazaire in December 2017. The company’s maintenance centre in Fourchambault is responsible for providing the logistics support for VT4-equipped units.

The VT4 has already received positive feedback from the French units for its ‘comfort, security and modernity’, in addition to its ability to help ‘preserve the soldier’s battle-readiness in operations’.

In September, the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) signed a contract for the second tier of 1,200 Standard 2 VT4 vehicles. The company noted that the production of Standard 2 variant will start next year.

The French Army is expected to be equipped with a total of 4,380 VT4 vehicles by 2025, which will replace the P4 liaison vehicle.
