The fifth iteration of the biennial Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Peace Mission Exercise has concluded at the drill ground of the 255th Inter Services Firing Ranges in Chebarkul, Russia.

SCO Peace Mission Exercise 2018 is a joint training activity carried out by multinational forces from eight participating countries focused on conducting counter terrorist operations in an urban scenario in a multinational and joint environment.

This year’s exercise, which was formally started on 24 August this year, was conducted by the Central Military Commission of Russia at Chebarkul, Chelyabinsk.

Carried out as part of SCO initiatives, the joint multinational exercise was designed to provide the participating nations with training focused on combating terrorism.

“The exercise will help significantly develop mutual understanding and respect amongst all SCO member nations in the future.”

The activity involved intense military training, during which multinational forces demonstrated their combat power and dominance over the extremist groups in a simulated realistic situation.

The SCO Peace Mission Exercise offered an opportunity to the armies of all participating nations to have enhanced cultural understanding and share increased experiences, in addition to strengthening mutual trust and cooperation.

India participated in the SCO Peace Mission Exercise for the first time after becoming a full member of the SCO in June last year.

The participation involved a contingent of 200 personnel primarily composed of the Indian Army troops from infantry and affiliated arms and services, in addition to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
