Israeli firms Elbit Systems and Roboteam has introduced a multi-payload military 6X6 uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) called Rook.

The vehicle is built leveraging the operational experience gained through fielding of the 4×4 Probot UGV systems.

Rook UGV comes with a built-in autonomy suite with improved capacity and manoeuvrability for greater effectiveness during missions. It weighs 1,200kg and has a ground clearance of 24cm.

The UGV exhibits a modular box structure that will enable on-field replacement of components without the need for qualified technicians or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) lab maintenance.

The vehicle can be used to deliver supplies and evacuate casualties. It can also be used for intelligence gathering missions and as a remote weapon system.

Additionally, Rook UGV can operate during both day and night and can traverse through rough terrains.

According to an Elbit Systems statement, Rook can carry up to 1,200kg of payloads.

It can operate at a speed of 30km/h and has an operational endurance of up to eight drive hours while using a modular hybrid energy configuration of batteries and an optional internal generator.

The statement added: “Rook is operated either via the TORCH-X RAS application or through an all-weather 7-inch ruggedised display unit, enabling a single operator to control several unmanned systems.”

Recently, Elbit Systems launched a new subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new establishment Elbit Systems Emirates (ESE) is expected to help in strengthening the Israeli company’s cooperation with the UAE Armed Forces.
