Technology firm Elbit Systems has been selected for the software-defined radio (SDR) programme of the Swiss Armed Forces.
Reportedly valued at more than $200m, the contract is pending approval by the Swiss Parliament.

Under the contract with the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), Elbit Systems will provide the country’s armed forces with an army-wide tactical SDR solution under the Telecommunications Armed Forces (TK A) programme, Ersa mob Komm.
The solution that will be based on the open architecture E-LynX SDR family.
As part of the Armed Forces telecommunications project, the Swiss army seeks to replace several of the obsolete radio devices and related accessories.
The order will replace several of the telecommunication systems in use, which are scheduled to end service between 2018 and 2022.

Elbit beat out the Swiss communications firm Roschi Rohde & Schwarz AG, Ittigen to win the contract.
Elbit Systems president and CEO Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said: “We are proud to have been selected to provide such an important capability to the Swiss Armed Forces. Switzerland is a strategic market for us and we will continue with our efforts to support the Swiss Armed Forces and expand our cooperation with the Swiss industry.”
Earlier this month, Elbit Systems secured a $153m contract to provide a networked multi-layered UAS array to an Army in South East Asia.
In August, the Israeli Ministry of Defense selected Elbit Systems to provide its Iron Fist Light Decoupled active protection system.
Elbit focuses on upgrading existing platforms, developing new technologies for defence, homeland security and commercial applications, as well as offering a range of support services, including training and simulation systems.
