DiSTI has received a contract from JF Taylor to support the development of the armoured multi-purpose vehicle (AMPV) part-task-trainer (PTT) prototype for the US Army.

The contract was awarded as part of the US Army’s Family of Maintenance Trainers (FMT) programme.

This programme was devised to establish a common core (CC) software baseline to replace the current software architecture with an adaptable solution that will help in implementing new and emerging technologies for future training requirements.

Under the contract, DiSTI will support PTT development by providing lesson and software modifications to the FMT CC software and AMPV Diagnostic Task Trainer (DTT) software.

The company will also offer associated documentation to support additional AMPV PTT physical trainer requirements.

Work will involve implementing several CC and AMPV-specific software elements, including the AMPV lessons, AMPV simulation, lesson tracker, message manager interface, instructor/operator station (IOS) and training management system (TMS).

DiSTI CEO John Hayward said: “DiSTI is eager to work with JF Taylor and other FMT hardware-based hands-on-trainer and part-task-trainer (PTT) suppliers to take full advantage of the FMT product line architecture and common core software.

“This programme will provide a common training experience across US Army vehicles and reduce development and lifecycle costs.”

As agreed, multiple US Army training locations will be equipped with the AMPV DTT training classrooms.

JF Taylor president Wayne Taylor said: “JF Taylor is excited to join forces with DiSTI to provide the best maintenance training product to the army.

“By combining the proven ground vehicle maintenance experiences’ of JF Taylor’s hardware solutions with DiSTI’s virtual solutions, the PTT will bring a new high standard of training devices to the training aids, devices, and simulators (TADSS) community.”

Earlier this month, DiSTI secured another order for the delivery of diagnostic troubleshooting trainers (DTT) for the US Army’s M1 Abrams battle tank.
