The US Army’s Delta Battery, 2nd Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Regiment of the 2-1 ADA Battalion, 35th ADA Brigade has for the first time qualified on the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system outside of the US.

Since their deployment to the Republic of Korea, soldiers from the D-2 Battery have been providing constant protection to more than 51 million civilians.

The unit opened its office facilities at Camp Carroll to carry out THAAD-Patriot interoperability testing and solidify their storage combat load procedures.

The battery-level gunnery certifications were executed in October.

Prior to the certification, the D-2 Battery completed strategic collective training on the weapon system.

Stages of evaluation included mission brief, written exam, administrative and maintenance readiness assessments, alert state assumption, and air battle management level XI in accordance with THAAD doctrine.

Following the evaluation, the standardisation team provided soldiers with an after action review and out-brief to help them continue their training and mission performances.

Capable of intercepting exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric threats, the missile system is an easily transportable defensive weapon used to protect against hostile threats such as tactical and theatre ballistic missiles at ranges of 200km and altitudes of up to 150km.
