BAE Systems has secured a contract from the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop machine learning analytics.

This is a new Cloud-based model being developed for the US Government and seeks to provide an automated service that aims to leverage commercial and open-source data, including satellite imagery.

The service will provide continuous global situational awareness for a diverse range of challenges, including anomaly detection and prediction.

The BAE Systems’ FAST Labs research and development team will develop the technology under DARPA’s Geospatial Cloud Analytics (GCA) programme.

The development team will use the company’s Multi-INT Analytics for Pattern Learning & Exploitation (MAPLE) technology and offer MAPLE as a service (MaaS).

Developed to apply automated analytics as a solution, this technology will free operators to answer specific questions about important mission issues.

The technology leveraged, makes the cloud highly flexible and easily scalable solution providing worldwide vigilance.

Using the technology, analytics is automated in an innovative way utilising machine learning to discover nuanced patterns in both sparse and large data volumes.

This is aimed at solving highly complex problems.

Research on the GCA programme uses machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities including adaptive reasoning and analysis in its autonomy technology.

BAE Systems is researching several fields, including current work on DARPA’s Hallmark Tools, Capabilities, and Evaluation Methodology programme.
