Romania has sent a team of military medical personnel and specialists to the US to support healthcare facilities in combating the Covid-19 outbreak.

The move is the part of Nato Allies’ response to the pandemic that the killed more than 346,000 globally.

The team comprises five doctors and five nurses from emergency military hospitals in Romania, and chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) specialists from the Romanian Defence Staff and the Romanian Land Forces.

They will support the authorities in the US state of Alabama in Covid-19 response efforts.

Specifically, the medical team will offer specialised support to medical care and treatment units, as well as gain experience in fighting the disease.

Notably, the US is one of the worst affected countries by the Covid-19 pandemic reporting more than 1.6 million cases. The death toll in the country also soared to 98,200.

Earlier, Nato extended support to the Republic of Moldova to combat the impact of Covid-19. Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia and Nato’s partner Austria assisted the country which has reported a total of 7,147 confirmed coronavirus cases, as of 26 May.
